Last week, the RMC Retail Insights Breakfast took place at our office on Marnixkade, where we reflected on the shopping streets of 2024 with 16 clients from various sectors, including municipalities, business associations, and retailers.
How are shopping areas and visitor patterns changing?
Over a delicious breakfast, Huib shared insights on trends in footfall data from the past year. Key topics included the shift from compact shopping cities to larger city centers and the varying visitor numbers across different cities. While some cities saw a significant increase in footfall, others lagged behind. It also became clear that Saturdays and Sundays are becoming busier, while the traditional evening shopping hours are attracting fewer visitors.
Challenges and opportunities for entrepreneurs
After this insight, participants gathered around the table to discuss the developments in their stores and business models. What were their biggest challenges in 2024? And what can we expect in the coming year?
The open discussions and interaction between participants make these sessions particularly valuable. Retailers learn from each other, and municipalities and entrepreneurs come closer together. It’s inspiring to hear how the situation differs across cities and the strategies that entrepreneurs are implementing.
